Oliver Wates

Kendal G & S did it last year. The plot certainly did need some updating. Not sure I agree about the catchiest tunes. This year's production, Pirates of Penzance, has half a dozen beautifully crafted well-known songs. Kendal G & S also manage a 14-piece orchestra (substitute 2nd 2nd violin – O Wates) rather than two pianos. The joys of being amateur!
