I have just bought four tickets for the RSC's Indian Midsummer Night's Dream, which opens at the Roundhouse in March. Near-apoplexy resulted when it emerged that for a telephone booking they proposed to charge an extra £2.50 PER TICKET. So four tickets at £27.50 would cost not £110 but £120. I find all booking fees or credit card processing fees quite outrageous, but especially so when the sum is charged per ticket rather than per transaction. The Roundhouse reduces the charge to £1 for online bookings, but it's still per ticket. In the end, old skinflint that I am, I caught the tube to Chalk Farm and bought the tickets from the box office, without any surcharge. Why not just price the tickets at £30 and have done with it? Going to the theatre is starting to become a bit like flying with a dodgy airlne that can't or won't tell you the true cost of your flight.
